General information
The first International Conference SWBSS was held in Copenhagen (Denmark) in 2008, organised by Lisbeth M. Ottosen. It was followed by SWBSS 2011, organised by Ioannis Ioannou in Limassol (Cyprus) and SWBSS 2014, organised by Hilde De Clercq in Brussels (Belgium) and us.
The German assoziation of scientists “Salze im Kulturgut e.V.” is pleased to announce that the forth conference SWBSS 2017 will be organised by Steffen Laue and colleagues in Potsdam in September 2017, in collaboration with KIK-IRPA (Brussels).
The conference aims to bring together conservators, restorers, engineers, architects, academics, students and experienced researchers and hence contributes to the promotion of research and development within the field of salt weathering of porous materials.
Main topics
Salts in monumental built heritage and stone sculptures are still today a major problem in preservation caused mainly by environmental influences. Therefore, the conference will focus on:

- 2. Transport phenomena and salt crystallisation
- 3. Measurement techniques
- 4. Desalination techniques
- 5. Conservation issues
- 6. Case studies
