The tombstone became a place of hope, instead of sadness

2016-10-14

Now, haobo stone will share a touching story in the statue of Little Matthew Stanford Robinson with you.

Little Matthew Stanford Robinson was born with severe disabilities and died aged only ten, but his parents have decided to find hope in his story.

In Salt Lake City cemetery, Utah, a tombstone with a sculpture of a boy rising from the wheelchair reaching for the sky keeps alive the memory of a boy who died at the age of just ten.

Matthew Stanford Robinson was born to Ernest and Anneke in 1988. Due to lack of oxygen, he was born blind and paralysed from the neck down. He was unable to speak more than a few words.Doctors warned that he would only live a few hours, but Matthew defied his grim prognosis by making it to ten-and-a-half years old.

The hope and joy evident in the statue has been a comfort to many

In a beautiful response to such a sad situation, Matthew's father decided to erect a statue at his son's grave, depicting the freedom and happiness that he wanted for his son in life. The statue went up in 2000, two years after Matthew's death.

In order to further their son's memory and help others who faced similar struggles, the Robinsons established a non-profit organization called Ability Found .

The organization helps people with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, stroke, cancer, spinal cord injuries, and multiple sclerosis to get rehabilitation equipment they might not otherwise be able to afford.

A more complete look at the touching tribute to a beloved son's short life

“Instead of sadness, the statue makes our son Matthew's grave a place of happiness,” said Ernest Robinson, Matthew’s dad and President of Ability Found. “Many others have found that true also.”

As stated on Matthew's online memorial : “Confined to the chair most of his young life, he is now free of earthly burdens.”

Matthew’s statue, which has been visited by millions of people from all over the world, evokes a sense of happiness.

It speaks volumes about how in this life we may have to suffer through hardships and trials, but when we pass to the other side, our spirits are free from those earthly disabilities.”

So a tombstone became a place of hope, as opposed to one of sadness and grief.
